Job summary

Design For Making seeks an Automation & Controls Engineer II to develop, test, and commission PLC-based automation for custom machines and robotic cells. You will work with mechanical and electrical teams to move projects from design through commissioning.

At this level, you own the controls for complete machines of moderate complexity and work independently while seeking review on new architectures and safety functions. This role is full-time and on-site in Idaho Falls.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of PLC programming or controls engineering experience.
• Experience with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell PLCs and Studio 5000 or similar.
• Willingness to work full-time in person in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Responsibilities

• Program PLC systems from project start to testing and commissioning.
• Assist with electrical design reviews and control architecture.
• Integrate robots, vision, and motion with machine sequencing and safety.
• Configure and troubleshoot HMIs, sensors, VFDs, servo systems, I/O, and networks.
• Travel up to 25% for customer-site installation and commissioning.
