Job summary

Caterpillar is seeking an electrical engineering professional to support design, development, and implementation of advanced generator control switchgear systems. You will deliver automation and control solutions for complex power systems, work independently and with teams, and drive retrofit and new projects from concept through commissioning.

Responsibilities include designing, programming, testing, and commissioning PLC-based controls, transforming legacy PLCs, and developing HMI apps.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
Experience with automation and controls including PLCs, HMIs, and DCS.
Willingness to travel 35–50% and work remotely from the U.S.

Responsibilities

Identify retrofit opportunities and define project scope with Dealer and Factory teams.
Execute design, programming, testing, and commissioning of generator control systems.
Convert legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
Coordinate with CAD designers to produce wiring and assembly drawings.
Perform risk assessments and support field performance of projects.
Train technicians, customers, and internal teams on maintenance and operation.
