Job summary
Caterpillar's Electric Power Division is seeking an engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of generator control switchgear systems. You will deliver automation and control solutions for complex power systems, working both independently and with teams from concept through commissioning.
This role requires PLC and HMI experience, the ability to read schematics, and collaboration with CAD designers to produce wiring drawings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years with degree or 4+ years without degree in automation and controls.
- Experience with PLCs, HMIs, and distributed control systems.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints; valid driver's license.
Responsibilities
- Identify retrofit opportunities and define project scope.
- Design, programming, testing, and commissioning of control systems for generators.
- Convert legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
- Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications.
- Partner with CAD designers to produce wiring drawings.
- Provide technical support to sales and product teams.
- Submit project documentation and expenses promptly.
- Train technicians and customers on maintenance and operation.
- Support field performance of projects.
