Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a qualified engineer to support design, development, and implementation of generator control switchgear systems within the Electric Power Division.

You will deliver automation and control solutions for complex power systems, leading retrofit and new project work from concept through commissioning. Role involves executing design, programming, testing, and commissioning of control systems, converting legacy PLCs, and collaborating with CAD teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience with automation and controls; PLCs and HMIs.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.
• Knowledge of power systems, switchgear, ATS and generator systems.
• Willingness to travel 35-50%; US-based remote work possible.

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities and define project scope with Dealer and Factory teams.
• Design, program, test, and commission LV/MV generator paralleling control systems.
• Convert legacy PLC programs and validate performance.
• Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
• Prepare wiring/assembly drawings with CAD designers.
• Perform risk assessment and support field performance of projects.
• Document projects and train technicians, customers, and internal teams.
