Qualifications

• Highly qualified with required competency in the content area.
• Appropriate content and grade level licensure Teacher of Severe or Moderate Disability (PreK-8) from the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
• Bachelor's Degree with appropriate license; or
• Master's Degree with appropriate content area license at high school level preferred and expected within 5 years.

Responsibilities

• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.
• Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interest, and abilities of the students.
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
• Guides learning toward achievement of district curriculum goals and communicates clear objectives to students.
• Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
• Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media tailored to location and student needs.
• Assesses student progress regularly and provides progress reports; communicates with parents as needed.
• Maintains accurate records as required by law and policy.
• Diagnoses learning challenges and seeks district specialist assistance as required.
• Takes precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Follows district code of conduct and enforces classroom rules fairly.
• Plans and supervises assignments for paraprofessionals and writes evaluations.
• Maintains ongoing professional growth to satisfy district requirements and personal goals.
• Participates in teacher evaluation process and collaborates on results.
• Attends meetings to promote communication and mutual decision making with staff.
• Participates in school activities and events as per the teachers' contract.
• Contributes to district and building decisions on budget, facilities, curriculum, and staff well‑being.
• Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
