Job summary

Loudoun County Public Schools in Virginia seeks a Special Education teacher to develop and implement an instructional program for students with diverse learning needs. Under supervision of a principal, you will monitor student progress, plan lessons, and utilize multimedia and adaptable materials to support achievement.

You will collaborate with guidance counselors, librarians, and regular education teachers, communicate with parents, and participate in professional development.

Qualifications

• Holds a valid Virginia or out-of-state teaching license in Special Education.
• Eligible for a Virginia teaching license in Special Education (must submit transcripts).
• Knowledge of LCPS curriculum and division goals and organization.
• Knowledge of pre-adolescent and adolescent growth and development.
• Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs.
• Skill in using multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning.
• Ability to plan lessons aligned to Division objectives and student needs.

Responsibilities

• Continually assess student achievement and maintain documentation for reporting.
• Plan and implement instructional strategies and learning activities.
• Manage learner behavior to maintain a conducive learning environment.
• Coordinate instructional activities with other professional staff to maximize learning.
• Participate in in-service, professional development, and staff meetings.
• Communicate with students about progress and with parents through conferences.
• Collaborate with guidance counselors, librarians, and others to carry out activities.
