Job summary

Loudoun County Public Schools seeks a Teacher Assistant for students with disabilities to support instructional activities and daily routines in the classroom. The role involves preparing materials, supervising students, applying behavior strategies, and assisting with personal care under teacher guidance.

Strong communication and teamwork are essential in a dynamic school setting. Experience with special education methods is preferred, and the job requires physical capability to assist students

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience as a teacher aide or experience working with children.
• Ability to follow lesson plans under supervision.
• Ability to work with individual children and small groups to meet instructional objectives.
• Ability to lift/assist students and adapt to diverse student needs.
• Proficient with basic office and video equipment; willing to learn medical procedures when needed.

Responsibilities

• Collects and records student data such as skill practice, seizure occurrences, and toileting.
• Provides discipline in the absence of the teacher and maintains consistency with procedures.
• Implements behavior modification plans.
• Practices speech sounds, vocabulary, and syntax objectives with students as directed by the speech therapist; reads to students and stimulates language development.
• Supervises learning centers during independent work and assists students with materials.
• Participates in classroom activities such as discussions and games.
• Operates computer and audiovisual equipment such as DVD, data projector, or smartboards.
