Qualifications

• Virginia or out-of-state teaching license in Special Education.
• Eligible for Virginia license in Special Education (transcripts required).
• Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods and equipment of instructional specialty(ies).
• Knowledge of pre-adolescent and adolescent development.
• Familiarity with LCPS curriculum and district goals; apply current research to instruction.
• Skill with multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning; plan lessons accordingly.
• Ability to build effective relationships with students, peers, admins and parents; strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Assess student achievement and maintain assessment documentation.
• Plan and implement instructional strategies and materials tailored to learners.
• Manage student behavior to maintain a conducive learning environment.
• Coordinate activities with professional staff to maximize learning.
• Participate in in-service and professional development and staff meetings.
• Communicate progress and instructional expectations to students.
• Communicate with parents through conferences and other means.
• Collaborate with counselors, librarians, and others to support schoolwide activities.
