Job summary

Gersh Autism Academy in Brooklyn is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support teachers in delivering instruction and implementing behavioral strategies for students with autism. The role involves facilitating academic and life-skill lessons and adapting materials to individual needs.

Responsibilities include maintaining a safe, orderly classroom, assisting with IEPs, coordinating with therapists, and participating in trainings and team meetings.

Qualifications

• BS/BA degree preferred.
• Teaching Assistant Skills Test (ATAS) preferred.
• Experience working with children on the autism spectrum preferred in a Teaching Assistant role.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher in using evidence-based methodologies to support students.
• Create an engaging classroom environment by displaying student work.
• Maintain a safe classroom and monitor student behavior.
• Assist in planning and delivering daily lessons and adapting materials as needed.
• Maintain accurate records and assist with annual progress reports.
• Support implementation of IEPs and Behavior Intervention Plans for students.
• Collaborate with speech, occupational, and other therapists to support student progress.
• Participate in trainings, meetings, and school events.
• Assist in daily routines including attendance, meals, and rest periods.
