Job summary

Gersh Autism Academy in Brooklyn, NY seeks a dedicated Special Education Teacher to serve as the Primary Educator for students aged 5–21 in a year-round program. Responsibilities include in-class instruction and daily communication with families within a school setting.

Ideal candidates hold a NY Teaching Certification and a Bachelor’s Degree (Master's preferred) in education or related field, with experience in ABA and IEP planning. Comprehensive benefits accompany this full-time role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree (Master's preferred) in education, special education or related field or professional certification required
• NY Teaching Certification Required
• Experience working with students with ADHD, LD, HFA and other related disabilities preferred
• Experience using Applied Behavioral Analysis preferred
• Experience in assessment and report writing preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead daily instructional programs to drive student achievement in-school.
• Communicate with parents/caretakers to support participation.
• Access trainings to use specific software programs and tools for instruction.
• Use motivational strategies to engage students with appropriate teaching tools.
• Provide daily and weekly lesson plans aligned with IEP goals.
• Record daily attendance and classroom instruction times.
• Complete daily session notes with objectives, activities and outcomes.
• Participate in CSE/IEP meetings and update IEPs/goals as needed.
• Coach and mentor parents to support daily learning.
• Prepare resources, lesson plans and materials.
• Monitor and document student participation.
• Communicate progress and roadblocks to supervisor/BCBA.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree (Master's preferred) in education or related field or professional certification

NY Teaching Certification
