Job summary

Gersh Autism's Academy for Young Minds in Long Island City, NY is seeking a Behavior Technician (Paraprofessional) to support students with autism in a private school setting. The role involves implementing IEPs/BIPs, providing 1:1 and small-group support, and aiding communication and self-management skills.

This full-time, 12-month position offers daily training with behavior analysts, collaboration with teachers, and opportunities for growth within the Gersh Autism network.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or higher preferred.
• Experience working with children, especially those with autism or special needs, is a plus but not required.
• Willingness to pursue RBT certification within a specified time frame.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher in implementing IEPs and BIPs for students with autism.
• Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, encouraging academic, social, and behavioral growth.
• Help students with daily tasks, including communication, social interaction, and self-management skills.
• Prepare students and materials for activities and daily transitions.
• Support students during classroom activities, field trips, and other school events.
• Implement strategies from BIPs to promote self-regulation and learning readiness.
• Collect and document data on student performance, behavior, and progress toward goals.
• Collaborate with the teaching team and behavior specialists to create a positive learning environment.
• Communicate progress and challenges to teachers and staff.
• Participate in daily training sessions with behavioral analysts for ongoing growth.
