Job summary

WHMC seeks an Authorization Lead to manage referrals and prior authorizations while guiding a team within Patient Financial Services. The role requires Epic expertise, denial reduction focus, and collaboration with clinical and business office teams.

You will supervise staff, support process improvements, and ensure payer requirements are met to optimize reimbursement and access for patients.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle, referrals, authorizations, or patient financial services.
• Proficiency in Epic or similar EMR system.
• Strong knowledge of payer authorization and referral requirements.

Responsibilities

• Enter authorization data into the patient accounting system with dates, visits and billing details.
• Ensure authorizations are current and match scheduled services; alert staff of expirations.
• Communicate authorization information to relevant staff and obtain approvals from insurers/beneficiaries.
• Research denials, coordinate retro-authorization or appeals, and track denial trends.
• Lead training and mentoring for staff on Epic workflows and payer rules; act as liaison across departments.
