Job summary

Valero Energy is seeking an Audit Intern for Summer 2027 at our San Antonio headquarters. You will gain practical audit experience, applying accounting concepts to develop core competencies for a business environment.

The role involves assurance work, risk assessments, and data analysis using Excel, Power BI, SQL, Python, and Alteryx, with a focus on identifying process improvements and ensuring compliance. This is an hourly, nonexempt internship requiring full-time summer availability.

Qualifications

• Able to work on-site at Valero San Antonio Headquarters.
• Pursuing a bachelor's degree (or higher) in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Graduation dates December 2027 through May 2029 required.
• Able to work 40 hours per week during the Summer.

Responsibilities

• Support assurance and advisory projects across the organization, helping identify process improvements.
• Participate in audit planning activities, including background information gathering, risk assessments and documentation.
• Assist in identifying key business risks and controls, and develop audit testing procedures.
• Analyze data using Excel, Power BI, SQL, Python and Alteryx to support audit objectives.
• Execute audit testing procedures and prepare clear testing documentation for review.
• Review contracts, invoices and reports to identify unusual transactions or control concerns.
• Evaluate compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements through audit testing and analysis.
• Assist in preparing written audit reports and follow-up on recommendations.
• Collaborate with audit team members and stakeholders with professionalism and a willingness to learn.
