Job description

We are seeking an experienced Audio Visual Field Engineer with a strong background in programming, configuring, commissioning, and troubleshooting professional audio visual systems in commercial environments.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience working for a commercial AV integration firm, with particular expertise in digital signal processing (DSP), audio system commissioning, networked AV technologies, and integrated conferencing solutions.

This position requires a technically skilled, self‑sufficient professional who can take ownership of system commissioning, diagnose complex technical issues, interact directly with clients, and ensure AV systems operate reliably and meet project specifications.

Candidates must be comfortable working on‑site in the New York City metropolitan area daily, with occasional out‑of‑state travel as business needs require.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program, configure, test, and commission commercial audio DSP systems, including Q-SYS, Biamp Tesira, and similar professional audio processing platforms.
  • Perform system commissioning, testing, and verification for commercial AV installations.
  • Troubleshoot complex audio, video, control, networking, and signal‑flow issues across integrated AV systems.
  • Configure and support networked audio and video technologies, including Dante and AV‑over‑IP solutions.
  • Review technical drawings, signal‑flow diagrams, equipment specifications, and manufacturer documentation to support successful system implementation.
  • Collaborate with project managers, installation technicians, programmers, and engineering teams to resolve technical challenges and complete projects.
  • Conduct on‑site service visits, diagnose system issues, and provide professional client‑facing technical support.
  • Support client meetings, presentations, and conferencing activities following new system installations.
  • Deliver end‑user training on installed AV systems, including system operation, troubleshooting basics, and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain accurate commissioning reports, technical documentation, system configuration records, and service notes.
  • Research manufacturer documentation, technical resources, and industry best practices to resolve unfamiliar technical challenges.
  • Provide technical support and assistance during project closeout, client turnover, and post‑installation service activities.
  • Travel occasionally to out‑of‑state project locations when required.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience programming and commissioning audio DSP systems within a commercial AV integration firm.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with professional audio DSP platforms and commercial AV system commissioning.
  • Working knowledge of Dante audio networking and networked AV infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues involving audio signal flow, DSP configurations, IP networking, and integrated AV systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to independently research, interpret, and apply manufacturer technical documentation.
  • Experience working directly with commercial clients in service, support, or project commissioning environments.
  • Ability to deliver professional end‑user training and provide post‑installation support.
  • Strong technical documentation, written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with internal engineering and field installation teams.
  • Must reside within reasonable commuting distance of New York City and be available for daily on‑site/in‑office attendance.
  • Willingness and ability to travel out of state occasionally.
Required Industry Certifications

Candidates must hold a minimum of two certifications from the following list. Additional certifications are highly desirable.

  • Q‑SYS Training – Level 1 or Level 2
  • Shure Collaboration and Conferencing Certification – Level 1 or Level 2
  • Network Certifications – Cisco, NETGEAR, Pakedge, or equivalent recognized networking credentials
  • Crestron DM NVX Certified Designer or Engineer

Equivalent advanced manufacturer training or closely related certifications may be considered based on relevance to commercial AV system commissioning and integration.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with professional live sound systems, audio mixing, and signal processing.
  • Advanced expertise in Q‑SYS, Biamp Tesira, Dante, and other networked audio platforms.
  • Experience supporting enterprise conferencing, collaboration, and meeting room technologies.
