Job summary

Rail Events Productions in Oklahoma City is seeking an Audio Technician/Operator for THE POLAR EXPRESS Train Ride. You will install and manage theatrical sound systems, operate them during performances, and troubleshoot as needed to preserve audio design integrity.

You will work with Sound Designer, Production Audio Supervisors, and Stage Managers, and may assist in related event tasks. Seasonal, non-exempt, hourly work with benefits for the right candidate.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a theatrical audio technician.
  • Audinate Dante Level 1 certification required before start.
  • Q-SYS Level 1 certification required before start.
  • Experience with RF systems and Wireless Workbench.
  • Experience with computer networking hardware and software.
  • Ability to work with production staff as a team member in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Sound Designer and production staff to install and maintain audio systems for the event.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair the audio systems throughout the event duration.
  • Maintain artistic integrity of sound designs throughout the event.
  • Work with Stage Manager to operate audio during the event.
  • Assist electricians with lighting systems as needed.
  • Assist load-out to restore event space to the railroad.
  • Collaborate with Director during rehearsals for last-minute changes.
  • Learn and follow company safety policies.
  • Foster a positive, enjoyable, and productive environment for staff and passengers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The Audio Technician/Operator works with the Sound Designer, production staff, and on-site management during load-in to install all theatrical sound systems in accordance with the system designs. They are responsible for the operation of the audio systems during the entire run of the event. They are also required to maintain the audio systems and troubleshoot in the event of system problems. They work under the supervision of the Production Audio Supervisors, Production Managers, and Stage Managers. Because of the nature of the live event, they may assist in any event-related items as required. They advise the Stage Manager and Local Production Manager of any technical or artistic needs that may arise to keep the integrity of the audio designs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with the Sound Designer and production staff to install and maintain audio systems for the event
  • Operate, maintain, and repair the audio systems throughout the duration of the event
  • Responsible for seeing that the sound designs are maintained with artistic integrity throughout the duration of the event
  • Work under the Stage Manager to operate the audio systems during the event
  • Assist the electricians with lighting systems as needed
  • Work with the production staff during load out to see that event space is returned to the railroad appropriately
  • Work with the Director and production staff during rehearsals to incorporate last-minute changes
  • Become familiar with company policies regarding safety
  • Work with the entire event team to maintain a positive, enjoyable, and rewarding environment for all staff and passengers
  • Other duties as assigned
Experience and Requirements
  • Experience as a theatrical audio technician
  • Experience with Dante. NOTE: Level 1 certification of Audinate Dante required before start of employment
  • Experience with RF systems and Wireless Workbench
  • Experience with QSC Q-SYS software. NOTE: Level 1 certification of Q-SYS required before start of employment
  • Experience with computer networking hardware and software
  • Ability to work alongside the production staff as a team member in an ever-changing environment
  • Ability to work independently with self-motivation and attention to detail as well as excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate, recognize, and solve practical problems and resolve issues
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in written form
Work Environment
  • Majority of time spent in an event setting
  • Varied schedules requiring evenings, weekends, overtime, and holidays
  • Able to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Varying temperatures and weather conditions; both indoor and outdoor
  • Able to stand and walk on uneven or unsteady surfaces aboard a moving train
  • Time spent in and around active railroad yard
