Job summary

American Heritage Companies is seeking an Audio Technician/Operator for THE POLAR EXPRESS Train Ride in Whippany, NJ. This seasonal, hourly role involves installing and running all sound systems on site, coordinating with the Sound Designer and stage staff to preserve audio integrity throughout performances, rehearsals, and load-out.

Candidates should have theatrical audio experience, Dante and Q-SYS certifications, RF/Wireless Workbench familiarity, and strong collaboration and problem-solving

Qualifications

Job Summary

The Audio Technician/Operator works with the Sound Designer, production staff, and on-site management during load in to install all theatrical sound systems in accordance with the system designs. They are responsible for operating the audio systems during the entire run of the event, maintaining the systems and troubleshooting any problems. They work under the supervision of the Production Audio Supervisors, Production Managers, and Stage Managers. Because of the nature of the live event, they may assist in any event related items as required. They advise the Stage Manager and Local Production Manager of any technical or artistic needs to keep the integrity of the audio designs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Work with the Sound Designer and production staff to install and maintain the audio systems for the event.
• Operate, maintain, and repair the audio systems throughout the duration of the event.
• Ensure the sound designs are maintained with artistic integrity throughout the event.
• Work under the Stage Manager to operate the audio systems during the event.
• Assist electricians with lighting systems as needed.
• Work with the production staff during load out to return the event space to the railroad appropriately.
• Collaborate with the Director and production staff during rehearsals to incorporate last-minute changes.
• Familiarize with company safety policies.
• Work with the entire event team to maintain a positive, enjoyable, and rewarding environment for all staff and passengers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Requirements

• Experience as a theatrical audio technician.
• Experience with Dante – Level 1 certification of Audinate Dante required prior to start of employment.
• Experience with RF systems and Wireless Workbench.
• Experience with QSC Q-SYS software – Level 1 certification of Q-SYS required prior to start of employment.
• Experience with computer networking hardware and software.
• Ability to work alongside the production staff as a team member in an ever-changing environment.
• Ability to work independently with self-motivation and attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to anticipate, recognize and solve practical problems and resolve issues.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

Work Environment

• Majority of time spent in an event setting.
• Varied schedules requiring evenings, weekends, overtime, and holidays.
• Requires standing for prolonged periods.
• Varying temperatures and weather conditions; both indoor and outdoor.
• Requires standing and walking on uneven or unsteady surfaces aboard a moving train.
• Time spent in and around active railroad yard.
