Rail Events Productions in New Orleans, LA is seeking an Audio Technician/Operator for THE POLAR EXPRESS Train Ride. As part of the Rail Events Production/Run Crew, you will install, operate, and maintain all audio systems for the event, reporting to the Production Audio Supervisor and Production Management.

This seasonal, non-exempt position requires Dante, Q-SYS, and RF/Wireless expertise, with hands-on collaboration with sound design and stage management.

Qualifications

• Experience as a theatrical audio technician.
• Dante Level 1 certification required prior to start.
• Q-SYS Level 1 certification required prior to start.
• Experience with RF systems and Wireless Workbench.
• Experience with computer networking hardware and software.

Responsibilities

• Install and maintain audio systems with the Sound Designer and production staff.
• Operate, maintain, and repair audio systems during the event.
• Maintain artistic integrity of sound designs throughout the show.
• Operate the audio systems under Stage Manager supervision.
• Assist electricians with lighting as needed.
• Assist load-out to restore event space to the railroad.
• Incorporate last-minute changes with director and staff.
• Follow safety policies and procedures as required.
• Support the team to ensure a positive environment for all staff and passengers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

The Audio Technician/Operator works with the Sound Designer, production staff, and on-site management during load in to install all theatrical sound systems in accordance with the system designs. They are responsible for the operation of the audio systems during the entire run of the event. They are also required to maintain the audio systems and troubleshoot in the event of system problems. They work under the supervision of the Production Audio Supervisors, Production Managers, and Stage Managers. Because of the nature of the live event, they may assist in any event related items as required. They advise the Stage Manager and Local Production Manager of any technical or artistic needs that may arise to keep the integrity of the audio designs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work with the Sound Designer and production staff to install and maintain audio systems for the event
• Operate, maintain, and repair the audio systems throughout the duration of the event
• Responsible for seeing that the sound designs are maintained with artistic integrity throughout the duration of the event
• Work under the Stage Manager to operate the audio systems during the event
• Assist the electricians with lighting systems as needed
• Work with the production staff during load out to see that event space is returned to the railroad appropriately
• Work with the Director and production staff during rehearsals to incorporate last-minute changes
• Become familiar with company policies regarding safety
• Work with the entire event team to maintain a positive, enjoyable, and rewarding environment for all staff and passengers
• Other duties as assigned

Experience and Requirements:

• Experience as a theatrical audio technician
• Experience with Dante. NOTE: Level 1 certification of Audinate Dante required prior to start of employment
• Experience with RF systems and Wireless Workbench
• Experience with QSC Q-SYS software. NOTE: Level 1 certification of Q-SYS required prior to start of employment
• Experience with computer networking hardware and software
• Ability to work alongside the production staff as a team member in an ever-changing environment
• Ability to work independently with self-motivation and attention to detail as well as excellent organizational skills
• Demonstrated ability to anticipate, recognize and solve practical problems and resolve issues
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in written form

Work Environment:

• Majority of time spent in an event setting
• Varied schedules requiring evenings, weekends, overtime, and holidays
• Able to stand for prolonged periods of time
• Varying temperatures and weather conditions; both indoor and outdoor
• Able to stand and walk on uneven or unsteady surfaces aboard a moving train
• Time spent in and around active railroad yard
