Job summary

Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown, PA is seeking a part-time team member to support ride operations, ticketing, and guest services. The role requires maintaining safety, handling cash, and delivering friendly service to visitors.

You must be 21+, have a valid driver's license, and be able to work weekends and holidays; previous ride operation experience is preferred. The schedule varies with events and weather, and shifts run roughly 9:00AM to 5:30PM with some nights.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Valid Driver’s License and comfortable driving tractors/vehicles.
• Seasonal, part-time with at least three days per week including some evenings and holidays.
• Previous ride operating experience preferred.
• Bilingual a plus.
• Two forms of official ID; background checks required.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Zoo in fostering appreciation of wildlife and the environment.
• Help ensure safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all operation areas.
• Follow all policies and procedures for the department and the Zoo.
• Be trained in attractions like ticket sales, barrel train, carousel, giraffe feedings.
• Monitor guests on rides to maintain safety at all times.
• Maintain safety standards for enjoyable attraction experiences.
• Collect and scan tickets at each attraction location.
• Verify ticket validity for assignments and expiration dates.
• Contribute to daily neatness and organization of the department.
• Balance cash drawer, handle payments, and operate POS.
• Assist with seasonal and special event programming.
• Communicate effectively with adults and children in groups and alone.
• Respond to guest inquiries and direct guests to appropriate parties.
• Inform managers of comments, complaints, or concerns.
• Assist in Guest Services as needed; perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Experience: Some Experience Required – Vehicle/Ride Operations, Cash Handling and Customer Service

Pay Rate: $15.00/ hour

Schedule: Must be able to work weekends and holidays. Schedule varies and is dependent on the event calendar, weather, and guest attendance.

EPZ Team Member Responsibilities:

• Assist the Zoo in fostering an appreciation of wildlife and the environment that will inspire active participation in conservation
• Assist Management in ensuring safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all areas of the operation of the Zoo
• Follow and adhere to all policies and procedures for their specific department and the Zoo at all times
• Ability to be trained in all aspects of the zoo’s attractions, including but not limited to the ticket sales and operation of our barrel train, carousel, and giraffe feedings
• Responsible for monitoring all guests while on board any of the rides or attractions to keep the experience safe at all times
• Responsible for maintaining all safety standards and procedures to ensure safe and enjoyable attraction experiences for all guests
• Responsible for collecting and scanning tickets at each attraction location
• Responsible for verifying the legitimacy of each ticket as it is collected for proper assignments, expiration dates, etc
• Contribute to the basic daily neatness and organization of the department and other areas
• Able to keep a balanced cash drawer, collecting payments and providing correct change, and operating a point of sale system
• Assist with seasonal and special event programming
• Communicate effectively with both adults and children in both group and individual settings
• Responsible for responding to guest inquiries and directing guests to appropriate parties within the Zoo for further questions
• Informs managers of comments, complaints, or concerns
• Assist in the Guest Services Department as per business needs
• Performs other duties as may be assigned by Guest Services Management

Qualification Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Must have a valid Driver’s License and be comfortable driving tractors/vehicles
• This position may require prolonged standing for several hours at a time
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs
• Must be able to work inside or outside in a variety of weather conditions
• This role is seasonal and part-time and requires availability for at least three days per week, including some nights and some holidays. Normal shifts are 9:00AM – 5:30PM with variable night shifts
• Previous ride operating experience is preferred
• Bilingual is a plus
• Identification: Two forms of official valid ID are required. Ability to pass background, child abuse and driving record clearances
