Position Overview

The Tennessee Department of Health is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as a Contract Associate General Counsel. This position will support the Department's efforts to strengthen Tennessee's rural healthcare infrastructure by helping regulate healthcare professionals serving the state's 89 rural counties.

Reporting to a Deputy General Counsel, the attorney will primarily handle disciplinary cases involving healthcare licensees. This includes reviewing investigations, advising Department staff, negotiating case resolutions, and representing the Department in administrative proceedings before healthcare licensing boards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the Department in administrative law matters before healthcare-related licensing boards.

Required Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
  • Active admission to the Tennessee Bar.
  • Tennessee law license in good standing.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one year of relevant legal experience.
  • Experience with administrative law, professional licensing, healthcare regulation, or government litigation.
  • Experience handling discovery, motions, negotiations, and administrative hearings.
