Qualifications

• JD degree required.
• Active Tennessee Bar admission.
• Tennessee law license in good standing.
• Litigation experience, including trial or hearing experience.
• Ability to manage and prioritize a substantial caseload.
• Strong legal research, writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong judgment, intellectual curiosity, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Represent the Department in administrative law matters before healthcare-related licensing boards.
• Review complaints and investigations involving healthcare professionals practicing in rural Tennessee.
• Provide legal guidance to Department investigators and licensing-board consultants.
• Handle all phases of disciplinary litigation, including discovery, motions, settlement negotiations, and hearings.
• Negotiate resolutions with healthcare licensees who have violated applicable practice acts.
• Manage a high-volume caseload involving matters at different stages of investigation and litigation.
• Assist with special legal and legislative projects.
• Review and analyze proposed legislation affecting rural healthcare delivery.
• Prepare clear and accurate legal correspondence, memoranda, and other written materials.
• Collaborate effectively with attorneys, investigators, consultants, and Department leadership.
