Distinct North America is seeking a Labor & Employment Attorney for its New York team. The role combines employment litigation with advisory work, with a hands-on approach and direct client exposure.
Requirements include admission to the New York Bar and 3+ years in employment or business litigation; the firm values strong writing, research and client-relations skills, with a national presence and flexible hybrid schedule.
I'm working with an established national law firm that's looking to bring a Labor & Employment Attorney into its New York team.
They're ideally looking for someone with at least 3 years of experience in employment law or business litigation. There's a good mix of contentious and advisory work, and the firm is open to attorneys who have a broader litigation background rather than exclusively employment law experience.
The team handles a broad range of employment matters for its clients, from day-to-day workplace advice and discrimination claims through to more complex litigation in state and federal courts.
It's a hands‑on role where you'll be involved in matters from an early stage, working alongside experienced attorneys but also having the opportunity to manage your own work and deal directly with clients.
The firm has a national presence and an established client base, so there's plenty of variety in the work and access to the resources you'd expect from a larger practice.
Depending on your background and experience, your work could include:
There's a good balance between litigation and advisory work, which could appeal to someone who enjoys being in court but also wants to develop the counseling side of their practice.
You’ll need to be admitted to the New York Bar and have 3+ years of relevant experience.
Ideally, you’ll have a background in employment law, employment litigation or business litigation, with experience handling matters in state and federal courts.
Strong writing, research and communication skills are important, as is the ability to manage your own workload and work well with other attorneys.
The firm values strong academics, but they’re equally interested in how you approach your work, your litigation experience and your ability to build relationships with clients.
A few things worth knowing about the role:
It could be a good fit if you're currently in a role that's heavily focused on litigation and would like to broaden your employment practice, or if you're looking for a firm with a national presence without sacrificing flexibility.
