Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; licensed in New York or eligible for in-house counsel registration.
• 3 - 8+ years of legal experience in a law firm or corporate legal department, preferably in gaming, technology, media, or entertainment.
• Proven expertise in consumer privacy (e.g., CCPA/CPRA) and financial privacy (e.g., GLBA).
• Strong skills in drafting, negotiation, and legal analysis.
• Excellent communicator with a pragmatic, business-oriented approach.
• High attention to detail, sound judgment, and strong business acumen.

Our client is hiring a Privacy Counsel to join its Legal and Compliance team. This role is central to shaping and maintaining privacy frameworks, advising on regulatory obligations, and ensuring data protection practices that enhance customer trust and business integrity.

Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance

• Provide legal guidance on compliance with U.S. and international privacy laws including CCPA/CPRA, GLBA, FCRA, CAN-SPAM, TCPA, and other federal and state regulations.
• Act as subject matter expert on GLBA, Regulation P, and related SEC and CFPB guidance for financial services or fintech operations.

Product & Data Counseling

• Partner with product, engineering, and marketing teams to integrate privacy-by-design principles into new products and services.

Policy & Program Development

• Assist in developing and maintaining privacy policies, training, and organizational protocols to ensure compliance and awareness across departments.

Contract Negotiation & Review

• Draft, negotiate, and review data protection agreements (DPAs), vendor contracts, and terms involving data use, retention, and security obligations.
• Provide counsel on data breaches and incident response, including notification obligations and regulatory coordination.

Regulatory Monitoring & Risk Assessment

• Track developments in privacy law and assess their impact on business operations. Recommend changes to reduce legal and reputational risks.

Strategic Legal Support

• Advise teams on legal risks and best practices for responsible data and marketing strategies.

Qualifications

• High attention to detail, sound judgment, and strong business acumen.

Preferred Experience

• Prior background working in a regulated industry.
• Knowledge of state-specific privacy and gaming requirements.
• Familiarity with digital marketing, influencer compliance, and affiliate network practices.
