Job summary

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University’s Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Medicine seeks a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor (HS) / Attending Gastroenterologist/Hepatologist. The Attending will deliver comprehensive care for diverse GI and liver diseases in inpatient and outpatient settings, while contributing to medical education and scholarly activities.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with general gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary diseases in inpatient and outpatient clinical settings.
• Deliver evidence-based, patient-centered care, including the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans for patients with acute and chronic gastrointestinal and liver conditions.
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal procedures, as appropriate to clinical training, credentials, and institutional privileges, to include upper endoscopy or colonoscopy with advanced procedures optionally and/or as needed.
• Participate in inpatient gastroenterology and hepatology consultations, outpatient clinical services, and other assigned clinical responsibilities.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care.
• Actively participate in clinical teaching, supervision, and mentorship of Gastroenterology/Hepatology fellows, Internal Medicine residents, and medical students.
• Contribute to educational activities, including clinical conferences, case presentations, didactic lectures, and other academic programs.
• Support the continued development and advancement of the Gastroenterology/Hepatology Fellowship Program and Internal Medicine Residency Program.
• Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives, patient safety activities, and efforts to enhance clinical outcomes and the patient experience.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive medical documentation in accordance with institutional policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Participate in clinical research, scholarly activities, and academic initiatives, as appropriate to qualifications, interests, and departmental priorities.
• Maintain current knowledge of advances in gastroenterology and hepatology through continuing medical education and professional development.
• Perform other related clinical, educational, and administrative duties as assigned.
