Job summary

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor (HS) / Hospitalist. The successful candidate will admit adult unassigned patients from the Emergency Department and MICU/CCU, diagnose and treat conditions, and coordinate discharge with the care team.

They will function as teaching attending for medical residents and students for about eight months yearly, mentoring and evaluating learners, and participating in hospitalist service

Qualifications

• New York State Medical Licensure.
• Medical Doctor Degree or equivalent.
• Full training in Internal Medicine.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine.

Responsibilities

• Admit adult unassigned patients from the Emergency Department, MICU and CCU according to Hospitalist service schedules.
• Diagnose and treat different medical conditions in the adult hospitalized patients on their service.
• Work with nursing staff and social worker to arrange discharge for patients admitted to their service; provide consultations for preoperative and inpatient care.
• Teach as the Teaching Attending for medical residents and student teams for ~eight months a year; set expectations and evaluate performance.
• Mentor 2nd-year students on history taking and physical exam skills; evaluate 3rd-year medical students; teach courses to residents and students.
• Participate in Hospitalist Service meetings and hospital administrative tasks.

Education

Medical Doctor Degree or equivalent

Full training in Internal Medicine

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine
