Job summary

The City of Shelby is seeking a dedicated parks and grounds worker to maintain athletic fields, golf course areas, and playgrounds. You will perform mowing, trimming, line marking and field prep to ensure safe, ready facilities for daily play and events.

Responsibilities include applying fertilizers and pesticides, operating maintenance equipment, inspecting facilities, and assisting with event setup. A high school diploma or GED and a valid NC driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in athletic turf maintenance, grounds keeping, or parks maintenance work; equivalent education/experience accepted.

Responsibilities

• Mows and maintains athletic fields, golf greens, fairways, roughs, and playgrounds; plants shrubs and sows grass.
• Trims hedges and weeds around obstacles; prepares fields for play and marks lines.
• Sprays fertilizer, herbicides, and fungicides; fertilizes and aerates greens and fairways.
• Operates equipment such as mowers, aerator, spreader; performs light maintenance on tractors and tools.
