Job description

Overview

The position is responsible for overseeing the management of Blackhawk Technical College's athletic teams, club sports, student wellness programs, and transportation services. Key duties include hiring, training, and supervising coaches, and collaborating with other college departments to enhance athletics, club sports, and student wellness initiatives. The role also partners with the BTC Foundation to coordinate fundraising efforts to support athletics. Additionally, the role oversees the College's shuttle bus services, coordinating daily staffing and operations to ensure timely student pick-up and drop-off.

This position will be open until filled, with a first review date of May 19, 2025. After this date, the recruitment may close without further notice. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

Responsibilities

Manage and Coordinate the Athletics Department.

  1. Provide leadership and oversight for all intercollegiate athletic teams, club sports, and student wellness initiatives.
  2. Maintain all NJCAA rules, regulations, compliance, and standards.
  3. Coordinate the athletic eligibility process in compliance with institutional, conference, and NJCAA regulations. Maintain all corresponding records.
  4. Coordinate league affiliations, competition schedules, and all other logistics associated with competitions (e.g., transportation, event officials, gym/event space and after hour requests.)
  5. Maintain athletics budget including budget preparation for the annual College budget process and the SAFAC submission request through Student Government Association.
  6. In collaboration with Academics and Facilities, coordinate gym and practice facilities, and secure external facility/space arrangements as necessary.
  7. Oversee and coordinate the College Fitness Center and track operations to include staffing, rules and regulations, and equipment maintenance and replacement.
  8. Coordinate supply, uniform, and equipment requests for Athletics.
  9. Recruit, hire, train and supervise coaches for athletic teams and club sports.
  10. Recruit, hire, train and supervise game/event staff; coordinate and oversee volunteers as needed.
  11. Develop and maintain the Athletics Handbook for students and coaches to be reflective of College policies and protocol.
  12. Actively participate in conference and/or NJCAA committees to advance the Athletics Program and the wellbeing of student-athletes.
  13. Coordinate student wellness and fitness opportunities including intramural offerings and the College Fitness Center.
  14. Maintain open and effective communication between student-athletes and coaches. Implement and maintain a process to collect data on the student athletic experience.

Fundraising and Community Outreach/High School Partners:

  1. Work with the BTC Foundation and Recruitment to coordinate fundraising, scholarships, and efforts to promote student-athlete opportunities at the College.
  2. Coordinate recruitment of student-athletes in partnership with student recruitment and high school partners.
  3. Work with departments including Advising, Recruitment, and Student Engagement to support student success and ensure access to resources.
  4. Establish and nurture community collaborations, business partnerships, and events that enhance the College’s brand and reputation.
  5. Collaborate with the BTC Foundation to develop and maintain a structured fundraising program to support the Blackhawk Athletics Program.

Shuttle Operations:

  1. Plan and coordinate the shuttle bus schedule based on student demands/needs.
  2. Schedule the shuttle bus drivers and ensure an appropriate number of drivers are available to meet route needs.
  3. Provide oversight on DOT regulations to ensure drivers comply with applicable laws and licenses.
  4. Partner with the BTC Designated Employer Representative to facilitate DOT-required drug and alcohol screenings of shuttle bus drivers.
  5. Maintain vehicle, passenger, and trip logs in compliance with DOT regulations.
  6. Responsible for the safety and maintenance of shuttle buses.

Collaborate with other areas of the college to advance athletics, club sports, and student wellness.

  1. Develop and implement Title IX awareness and prevention compliance trainings in coordination with the Title IX coordinator.
  2. Develop and advance programs, policies, and procedures that promote and support the academic success and welfare of student-athletes.
  3. Collaborate with Marketing on athletics communication, social media, and branding to ensure effective promotion of Athletics and consistency with the College brand.
  4. Represent the Athletics Department on and off campus and promote the College’s academic mission. Serve as chair of the Athletics Board.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of Title IX as it relates to sports and extracurricular activities.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations as it relates to shuttle bus operations.
  • Ability to build engaging and collaborative relationships with various stakeholders (i.e., coaches, current and prospective student-athletes, faculty, staff, and community partners).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and related applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.).

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Recreation/Sports Management, Exercise Science, or related field.
  • Four years of athletics administrative experience, preferably including sports oversight and/or coaching experience.

Blackhawk Technical College does not offer H-1B or other work authorization visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.
