Pender County Government in North Carolina is seeking an Athletic Program Supervisor to plan, develop, coordinate, and oversee recreation and athletic programs.

Under general supervision, you will supervise tasks, coordinate with partner organizations and schools, ensure a safe environment, manage facilities and equipment, and assist with budgets and incident reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation and Parks Management or related field is preferred.
  • Six months of experience in public recreation or equivalent combination of education/experience required or preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR certification desired or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional or ability to obtain within 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, organizing, scheduling, and supervising county athletic programs, leagues, camps, clinics, and events.
  • Coordinate use of County Park facilities with Recreation Partner Program Organizations and Pender County Schools for practices, games, and tournaments; obtain required documents.
  • Work with Recreation Partner Programs to implement youth sport-specific camps and clinics.
  • Perform inspections of activities and evaluate programs for safety and quality.
  • Ensure a safe environment for participants, spectators, and officials; file incident/accident reports as needed.

Job description

Under general supervision from the Athletic Supervisor performs semiskilled duties in planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, and overseeing recreation and athletic programs for Pender County.

Qualification Requirements

  • Assists with planning, organizing, scheduling, and supervising any task associated with County sponsored athletic programs, including leagues, camps, clinics, and special events.
  • Communicates, coordinates and schedules use of County Park facilities with Recreation Partner Program Organizations and Pender County Schools for practices, games, and tournaments; obtains required documents.
  • Works with Recreation Partner Programs to implement youth sport specific camps and clinics.
  • Makes frequent inspections of Recreation partner program activities and evaluates programs.
  • Ensures a safe environment for all participants, spectators, and game officials. Fills out incident and accident reports and provides a copy to the Parks and Recreation Director.
  • Assists with managing the Holly Shelter Shooting Range.
  • Responds to public inquiries concerning programs.
  • Provides oversight and direction of assigned programs.
  • Participates with other employees in accomplishing objectives and implementing a variety of recreational programs.
  • Ensures the safety of individuals and security of facilities; evaluates and takes appropriate action to correct unusual situations including fights, thefts, vandalism, behavior problems, code violations, etc.
  • Provides information and assistance to users of the facility; educates patrons on rules and regulations.
  • Must possess technical knowledge of recreational games such as basketball, soccer, softball, baseball, etc.
  • Enforces rules and regulations, facility rules, etc. for use of the facility.
  • Monitor’s buildings, grounds, and equipment; reports needed repairs.
  • Maintains necessary inventory of equipment; distributes supplies and equipment; assists with ordering supplies and equipment for recreation and athletic programs.
  • Assists with preparing and administering individual program or facility budgets as appropriate, monitors expenditures.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through at least six (6) months experience in public recreation or any equivalent combination of education or experience. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation and Parks Management or related field preferred.

Special Requirement
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
  • First Aid and CPR certification desired or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional or the ability to obtain within 12 months.
