The City of Mebane is seeking an experienced Recreation Supervisor to oversee youth and adult athletic programs and events. You will lead part-time leaders, plan leagues and tournaments, and coordinate safety and city services to ensure successful activities.

Responsibilities include program development, scheduling, equipment management, and maintaining program information in city software and partner apps. A bachelor's degree in parks & recreation and relevant experience are required.

GeneralStatementofDuties

Performs supervisory and administrative duties along with programming varied City of Mebane youth and adult athletic programs and recreational events.

DistinguishingFeaturesoftheClass

An employee in this class performs supervisory, administrative, and program management functions for City athletic events at various facilities. The emphasis of the work deals with Leader and program supervision, program planning, and managing the athletic functions for the City. Work is characterized by a considerable degree of independence and is performed under the direction of the Recreation Superintendent. Work is evaluated based on a combination of meeting a variety of expectations along with completing individual performance objectives and feedback from athletic program participants and their parents.

  • Oversees the athletic programming functions for the City, including, but not limited to, administrative duties, program supervision, leader supervision, program development, coaching, and officiating as needed.
  • Plans, organizes and implements sports leagues, tournaments, and programs.
  • Collaborates with official’s association and other outside sports organizations.
  • Oversees the setup of all indoor and outdoor athletic programs.
  • Maintains league schedules and standings.
  • Coordinates provision of City and/or County services for athletic events such as police enforcement, fire, emergency medical support, and related support services.
  • Maintains the inventory of sporting equipment, uniforms, and related supplies; maintains existing equipment to ensure proper functioning for current and future programs.
  • Enforces safety rules and regulations; monitors facilities to ensure the safety of conditions. including adverse weather and cancels, postpones, or rescheduled events.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Recreation Superintendent.
  • Participates as an active leader during the City's major special events.
  • Assist with setup and preparation of fitness programs
  • Ensures rooms, equipment and facilities are ready for daily operations and activities
  • Accurately manages athletic programs information on city software and websites, plus third-party apps the city is involved in.
  • Coordinates tournaments, rentals, and special athletic events including the planning, preparation and supervision of rentals and tournaments.
  • Actively a participant in the purchasing of equipment and supplies necessary to support athletic programs and events.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Supervisory principles and practices to elicit the full performance of leaders.
  • Administrative practices for athletics program operations.
  • Principles and practices for organizing and managing athletic tournaments.
  • Rules and regulations for play in various sports offered by the City.
  • Effective communication techniques that are required to plan and organize athletic programs.
  • Office equipment operations, including computers, printers, and sufficient knowledge of recreational software and the ability to use these components to improve job performance.

Ability to:

  • Plan, organize, and supervise the work of athletic part-time leaders.
  • Work varied hours and days to ensure the success of City programs and services, including nights, weekends, and occasionally on call when properly informed with notice.
  • Develop and manage athletics programs within available fiscal resources.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, to various groups and other city leaders.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local athletic groups and the general public.
PhysicalRequirements

This position is light work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force routinely to move objects. The Employee must have the visual acuity to operate machinery and perform mechanical or skilled tasks of a repetitive nature and maintain physical condition to perform duties.

WorkingConditions

Work in this class is performed both indoors in an office setting and outdoors, including exposure to heat and cold, but not on a continuous basis. The employee is subject to noise which may cause the employee to shout to be heard above the ambient noise level; vibrations from using mechanical equipment causing oscillating movement of the extremities or whole body; hazards such as operating or working near moving mechanical parts; and atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dust, mists, grease, or poor ventilation, oils and other cutting fluids.

EducationandExperience

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in parks & recreation management or related field and 2 - 5 years of athletic programming experience.

SpecialRequirements
  • A Valid NC Driver's License.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid CPR and First Aid certification from the American Red Cross or another agency of equivalent standing.
  • CYSA certification is preferred within the first year of employment.
  • Referee/Official certifications in various sports are preferred.
  • CPRP preferred but not required.

Hiring Range: $53,120.00 - $63,000.00

Grade 13 Range: $53,120.00 - $83,000.00
