Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Evaluate accounts receivable, provisions for loss, and internal controls for accuracy and completeness.
• Trace and verify inventory items and assess obsolescence or slow-moving stock.
• Obtain client representation letters and gather documentation for disclosures.
• Analyze financial statements and review depreciation methods.
• Supervise and train associates and oversee engagement tasks.
• Prepare and review complex tax returns including consolidated or dissolution filings.
• Draft management letters, reports, and client correspondence.
• Research accounting and tax issues and stay updated with pronouncements.
• Communicate with team and clients maintaining confidentiality.
• Identify engagement problems early and implement efficient solutions.

Job description

Our client is a public accounting firm. They seek an Assurance Senior Associate to join their Melville, NY office.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate accounts receivable, provisions for loss, and internal controls to ensure accuracy and completeness
• Trace and verify inventory items, assess obsolescence or slow-moving stock, and review valuation methods
• Obtain client representation letters and gather documentation for disclosures, including leases and differences between tax and accrual reporting
• Analyze financial statements, classify accounts, review depreciation methods, and identify possible contingent liabilities
• Supervise and train associates, oversee inventory counts, and direct engagement tasks to meet deadlines and budget requirements
• Prepare and review complex tax returns, including consolidated, dissolution, or liquidation returns, and suggest planning strategies
• Draft management letters, reports, footnotes, and client correspondence, ensuring accuracy and compliance
• Research accounting and tax issues, maintain knowledge of professional pronouncements, and follow AICPA and firm regulations
• Communicate effectively with team members, management, and clients, developing positive relationships and maintaining strict confidentiality
• Identify engagement problems early, implement solutions efficiently, and accept additional responsibilities with minimal supervision

Requirements

• 3+ years of public accounting experience specializing in assurance/audit
• Working knowledge of accounting and auditing practices
• Experience in planning and supervising audit and large review engagements
• Experience with employee benefit plans
• Working knowledge of accounting and auditing software
• Strong interpersonal skills, research skills, computer skills, communication skills and time management skills
• CPA preferred
