As a newly established business division of AXA XL, our Middle Market business focuses on the expansion of AXA XL’s current offerings to mid-sized clients in the US Commercial P&C market.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Underwriter to join an established underwriting team in a rapidly growing and dynamic division. The individual will be responsible for servicing a renewal book and producing new business through exceptional underwriting practices.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Build and enhance relationships with assigned brokers and clients to identify and establish new distribution relationships.
  • Collaborate across business units and functions to leverage existing resources to underwrite, manage and service an Inland Marine renewal book and produce new business in accordance with the Inland Marine underwriting unit goals.
  • Exercise discretion and self-supported judgment in the analysis and evaluation of risk.
  • Participate in roundtable discussions on risk assessment.
  • Negotiate with producers within the limits of delegated authority and in accordance with established underwriting standards to achieve profit objectives.
  • Build expertise within the Inland Marine portfolio community to address the needs of our clients. A one AXA solutions approach to Inland Marine underwriting.
  • Maintain compliance with all internal and external underwriting guidelines and legal requirements.

You will report to the Head of Inland Marine, Middle Market.

SHARE your talent

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

  • Some underwriting or underwriting support experience, preferably within the Inland Marine insurance space.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations.
  • Robust collaborative skills in a fast-paced team-centric environment.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to demonstrate critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to travel a minimum of 10% of the time is anticipated.
  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Continuing education or professional designations in insurance underwriting and information privacy including Certified Information Privacy Professional and Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) is preferred but not required.

The U.S. pay range for this position is USD 73,000 – 123,200. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience, and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
