The Staff/Sr. Staff Attorney is a fully remote, in-house position handling a caseload of Workers’ Compensation cases and appearances before the California Workers' Compensation Boards in Marina Del Rey, Los Angeles, Van Nuys, and Oxnard.

This role offers a collaborative learning environment with remote work and onsite appearances approximately four times a year, in partnership with our Attorney Staff. We are dedicated to personal growth and providing excellent customer service to our insureds. We also offer ongoing legal education seminars as part of our commitment to continuous learning. RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Analyze complex issues, conduct comprehensive legal research, and develop well-reasoned strategies.
  • Independently create and present defense strategies for clients.
  • Prepare pleadings, discovery, depositions, petitions, and trial briefs supporting defense strategies with autonomy.
  • Collaborate with Claims Partners to achieve optimal results for insureds.
  • Provide timely and effective legal advice, communication, and services to clients.
  • Communicate professionally with courts, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel.
  • Manage cases efficiently to facilitate prompt dispositions.
  • Prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, hearings, arbitrations, and alternative dispute resolutions.
  • Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide training to junior staff or claims partners.
  • Engage in claims file reviews and continuing legal education to maintain expertise.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Note: This position can be filled as a Staff Attorney or Senior Staff Attorney based on experience.

Associate Attorney:
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in California.
  • Legal internship or law clerk experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with the tripartite relationship is a plus.
  • Strong commitment to high-quality customer service.
  • Positive attitude and collaborative team spirit.
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strategic thinking and a desire for challenge.
Staff Attorney:
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience handling complex Workers’ Compensation cases.
  • JD from an accredited law school and licensed in California.
  • Trial experience preferred.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; LexisNexis experience is a plus.
  • Self-directed with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new software.
Additional Information:

This remote role requires travel 1-4 days per week within specified California locations, subject to court openings. We offer flexible work arrangements and a business casual environment.

Requirements include high-speed broadband internet (hardwired preferred) with a minimum of 10 Mbps upload and 100 Mbps download speeds.

Compensation:

The annual base salary ranges from $81,840 to $172,200, depending on experience and qualifications. Compensation may include bonuses, incentives, and recognition programs. Our total rewards package reflects our commitment to our employees.
