The Department of Neurosurgery within the School of Medicine and Stanley S. Scott Cancer Research Center of Excellence at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center – New Orleans invites applications for an academic faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor; rank and track to be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Incumbent will serve as the Vice Chair of Neurological Research for the Department of Neurosurgery and the Associate Director for Basic/Translational Science for the Cancer Center. Interested candidates should have an active and significant extramurally funded program and a vision for collaborative research projects related to neurological and cancer research as well as teaching ability.
Reporting to the Department Head of Neurosurgery, this faculty position will be a member of the Neurosurgery Department with a joint appointment with the LSU - LCMC Health Cancer Center working collaboratively with faculty, residents, and students to support and advance the strategic goals of the University, School and Center. We are seeking applications from distinguished academicians with proven scientific, strategic and collaborative leadership skills. The successful candidate should be committed to the development of leading research with a focus on extramural grant funding and academic excellence in support of the research and educational missions of the institution, and a commitment to excellence in academics including mentoring residents and medical students.
This senior leadership role is responsible for facilitating ongoing and potential research opportunities in neuro-oncological sciences, neurological malignancies, mentoring residents and faculty, and driving advancements in the field. The incumbent will work closely with faculty members and residents to support research development, foster interdisciplinary collaborations, and ensure research projects align with the department’s goals.
Qualified applicants should have a record of scholarship commensurate with appointment as Associate Professor or Professor; international reputation and track record of success in some aspect of cellular and molecular medicine; a demonstrated commitment to excellence in academics including medical, graduate and post-graduate education and the mentoring of trainees and faculty; and the ability to be a leader for both the Department of Neurosurgery and the Cancer Center, promoting the development of innovative research programs that align with the research mission of the School of Medicine and the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans.
