Job summary

Marquette University in Milwaukee invites applications for a full-time non-tenure-track Teaching Faculty position to lead BIOL 1101H: Honors Foundations in Biological Inquiry, beginning January 2027. The appointment is renewable after one year.

The successful candidate will also teach non-majors biology within the Marquette Core Curriculum and develop an Honors-designed Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experience for first- and second-year students.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or related field.
• Minimum of nine years of college teaching experience.
• Experience in undergraduate teaching is preferred.
• Experience in curriculum development or research-based laboratory instruction is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and teach four BIOL 1101H sections each semester (14 students/section) with a CURE focus.
• Mentor students through hypothesis testing, experimentation, and data interpretation with timely feedback.
• Design assessments to evaluate scientific reasoning, quantitative literacy, lab competency, and communication.
• Teach non-majors courses within the Marquette Core Curriculum, starting with BIOL 1410 'Biology of Human Disease' in both semesters.
• Develop or teach additional non-majors courses aligned with departmental needs.

The Department of Biological Sciences at Marquette University invites applications for a full‑time non‑tenure‑track Teaching Faculty position with the possibility of renewal after one year. The primary responsibility is to develop and lead BIOL 1101H: Honors Foundations in Biological Inquiry, beginning January 2027. The successful candidate will also teach non‑majors biology courses within the Marquette Core Curriculum and develop an Honors‑designed Course‑Based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) for first‑ and second‑year students.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and instruct four sections each semester (14 students per section) of BIOL 1101H: Honors Foundations in Biological Inquiry as a scalable, semester‑long CURE; provide direct instruction in laboratory techniques, experimental design, data analysis, and scientific communication.
• Mentor students through all stages of the research process—including hypothesis testing, experimental execution, troubleshooting, interpretation of results, and collaborative scientific inquiry—providing timely, substantive feedback.
• Design and implement meaningful assessment strategies that evaluate student learning in scientific reasoning, quantitative literacy, laboratory competency, and written and oral communication, and use assessment data to refine and strengthen the course.
• Teach non‑majors courses within the Marquette Core Curriculum, beginning with BIOL 1410 “Biology of Human Disease” in both semesters, with a sustained emphasis on advancing scientific literacy and engaging diverse student populations.
• Develop or teach additional non‑majors courses aligned with the instructor’s expertise and departmental needs.
