Part‑time Adjunct Faculty – Biology (Fall 2026)

The Department of Biology invites applications for a part‑time adjunct faculty position beginning Fall 2026.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching introductory biology courses as well as advanced courses depending on their expertise.

Our Biology Department, within the Division of Math, Science & Health Careers, offers Associate degrees in Biology and proficiency certificates in Personal Training. The department features well‑equipped labs at the Main Campus and two regional campuses. Instructors will teach both lecture and lab components, following common departmental syllabi that outline required textbooks, lab manuals, and assessment content, including committee‑driven final exams.

Responsibilities

• Teach biological concepts to a diverse student population.
• Teach introductory and advanced biology courses, including labs, in areas such as Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, and Cell and Molecular Biology.
• Support community college students to develop biological knowledge, professional attitudes, and skills for college and workplace success.
• Facilitate student learning, provide effective instruction, and perform evaluations of student learning for all assigned classes.
• Meet all classes and other scheduled responsibilities such as office hours and meetings at the designated times.
• Be available to students via email, phone, or personal conferences. Communicate availability clearly to supervisors and students.
• Become an expert in curricula and course materials, prepare lectures, hands‑on activities, and presentations for effective teaching.
• Assign grades and maintain course and student records in accordance with FERPA regulations and submit grades and records by established deadlines.
• Proactively identify and address student problems.
• Maintain and develop curriculum consistent with departmental learning objectives.
• Work with other faculty and administrators in developing program curriculum, standards, and policies; participate in textbook selection process where appropriate.
• Commit to participation in the intellectual life of the department and willingness to serve on college‑wide committees.
• Actively participate in professional development activities, meetings, and conferences.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in the biological sciences or related curriculum (MS in a related field considered with 20 graduate credits in biological sciences).
• Strong background in Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology, or Ecology.
• Teaching experience in higher education required.
• Ability to use teaching strategies and technologies for in‑person and/or online learning.
• Knowledge and integration of current technological applications into biology courses.
• Ability to deliver required course elements, while drawing on personal knowledge and experience to engage students.
• Ability to teach day, evening, first‑ and second‑year courses at main campus and/or regional centers.
• Problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Commitment to participation in intellectual life and willingness to serve on committee.
• Experience and commitment to using instructional technology.
