Job summary

The City of Fullerton is seeking an Associate Planner within the Community and Economic Development Department to tackle hands-on planning projects that shape neighborhoods and commercial districts.

You'll perform professional-level municipal planning work, including data analysis, report drafting, and coordinating projects, under general supervision. A journey-level role with opportunities for growth and professional development within a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Architecture, Public Administration, Engineering, or Geography.
• Experience: 1 year (2 years preferred) of professional planning experience at the Assistant Planner level.
• Knowledge of urban/regional planning, CEQA & Subdivision Map Act, zoning codes and plan review processes.
• Skills: strong analysis and report-writing; map reading and interpretation; clear, professional communication.

Responsibilities

• Coordinating environmental and community planning projects.
• Reviewing residential, commercial, and industrial development plans.
• Visiting sites to ensure projects meet city standards and zoning rules.
• Preparing reports, drafting ordinances, and making recommendations.
• Presenting work to community groups, committees, and commissions.
• Helping residents, architects, and developers understand planning processes.
