Job summary

The City of Tumwater is seeking an experienced Associate Planner to join the Long Range Planning team. You will support the development and implementation of long-range plans, policies, and programs shaping how Tumwater grows, with research, staff reports, and coordination with staff, the community, and regional partners.

In this role, you’ll advance projects from initiation through adoption, balance city priorities with regulatory requirements, and help translate community goals into actionable

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, geography, environmental studies, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
• One (1) to three (3) years of professional experience in public or private sector urban planning, land use, or housing requiring independent professional judgment.
• Valid Washington State Driver License and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Independently manages assigned planning and permitting projects of routine to moderate complexity.
• Prepare staff reports, recommendations, and conditions of approval for review.
• Interpret and apply land use regulations and planning policies to assigned projects.
• Coordinate project review processes and stakeholder input.
• Prepare staff reports, code interpretations, and development review analyses.
• Attend public meetings and present written, graphic, or oral reports and recommendations.
