Position Summary:

The Associate Medical Director, OB/GYN is a clinical leadership position that combines direct patient care with administrative, quality improvement, and operational responsibilities. Reporting to the Medical Director, OB/GYN, this role partners with department and health center leadership to support the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered, and evidence-based women’s health services across NeighborHealth.

The Associate Medical Director provides clinical leadership and oversight for OB/GYN team which includes nurse practitioners, midwives, MDs and contractors, promotes excellence in patient care, supports provider development and clinical education, and advances departmental quality improvement initiatives. The role serves as a key resource for clinical operations, peer review, patient safety activities, care standardization, and regulatory compliance while helping to ensure access, efficiency, and quality patient outcomes.

This position maintains active clinical practice while dedicating administrative time to provider support, quality improvement, departmental initiatives, and clinical leadership activities. The Associate Medical Director collaborates closely with the Medical Director and other health center leaders in providing direction and oversight for the OB/GYN Department, with an emphasis on evaluating and improving clinical care and supporting excellence in team-based care in OB/GYN.

What You’ll Do

The successful candidate will be able to perform the following responsibilities:

Reports to and works with the department medical director and other health center leadership in providing leadership, direction, and oversight to OB/GYN, with an emphasis on the evaluation and improvement of clinical care and the overall team care of OB/GYN. This will include shared primary responsibility for:

  • Clinical evaluation of department nurse practitioners, midwives and physician assistant providers, including the development and implementation of appropriate evaluation tools
  • Leadership of clinical education activities in collaboration with medical director for all providers
  • Peer review activities (e.g., chart reviews) to maintain compliance with Boston Medical Center and other regulatory policies, and to ensure and enhance the quality of clinical care
  • Participation in measuring compliance with clinical quality measures and other population clinical care parameters, as a basis for developing appropriate care improvement plans as well as meeting regulatory and contractual requirements
  • Works closely with the Quality department to review quality measures and implement and run QI initiatives
  • Assist the medical director with staffing and direction in the department
  • Participation in clinical review of incidents/adverse outcomes/complaints
  • Assists the medical director in departmental meetings
  • Collaborates with the Resource Nurse, Operations Manager and Clinical Administrative Director to guide team-based care.
  • Once oriented, will spend 50% of time in clinical care (16 clinical and 4 follow up hours = 20 payroll hours) and 50% of time in this administrative role (20 payroll hours)
  • Opportunity to take call
  • Provides clinical oversight and support for contracted Certified Nurse Midwives, including collaboration on clinical quality, patient care standards, departmental initiatives, and adherence to organizational policies and procedures.

In addition, as time allows and in accordance with evolving departmental priorities and needs, will be to provide leadership and coordination for selected clinical care improvement initiatives, which may include:

  • Access improvement
  • Assess and expand a telehealth initiative within the department
  • Participation in configuring the EpicCare EMR health maintenance and other decision support tools along with the department Epic Provider Builder.
  • Participation in the health center’s medication safety effort
  • Development of clinical pathways

The Associate Medical Director will participate in the following NeighborHealth meetings:

  • Clinical Leaders weekly
  • Medical Standards Committee monthly
  • Medication Safety Committee monthly
  • Pharmacy and Therapeutics quarterly
  • Patient Safety and Clinical Risk Management monthly
  • Performance Improvement Committee monthly
  • OBGYN Provider Meeting
  • Perinatal Health Rounds
  • Root Cause Analysis Meetings
  • Nursing Meeting

What You’ll Bring:

  • Successful completion of academic requirements of an accredited NP/PA/CNM program
  • Certification in relevant medical discipline
  • Current Massachusetts Nurse Practitioner License
  • Current Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration MCSR
  • Current DEA registrationBasic Life Support BLS
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in OB/GYN practice
  • Prior leadership, supervisory, precepting, or provider mentoring experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical operations
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and team leadership skills
  • Experience working in a community health center, FQHC, academic medical center, or similar ambulatory care setting preferred
  • Experience with EPIC or comparable electronic medical record systems

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • This position operates in a professional office and clinic environment
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands to operate a computer and other office equipment
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while performing administrative and computer-based tasks
  • Occasionally required to lift or move items weighing up to 20 pounds (such as files, office supplies, or small equipment)
  • Must have adequate visual acuity, hearing, and manual dexterity to perform essential job functions
  • May occasionally move between clinic and administrative areas and be exposed to a typical clinical setting
  • Expected to follow all NeighborHealth and OSHA safety policies and procedures, including maintaining a safe and ergonomic work environment
  • Reads, understands and complies with all Standards of Conduct, Joint Commission policies, requirements set forth by the United States Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration pursuant to Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act, applicable State regulations and guidelines, and all laws related to position responsibilities and employment at NeighborHealth.

Salary: from $144,560 to $181,250 based on years of experience.
