Job summary

The Kinetic Group in Lewiston, Idaho is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to design, develop, and improve tooling and processes for shell and cartridge manufacturing. You will lead projects that modify specifications, supervise tests, and push for quality and efficiency gains.

You will collaborate with production and engineering teams, review drawings, and implement engineering changes. A strong engineering background, problem-solving skills, and CAD proficiency are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent related experience.
  • Strong mechanical skills and troubleshooting ability.
  • CAD training; SolidWorks preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel.
  • Excellent mathematical and problem-solving abilities; strong communication.
  • Ability to perform with minimal supervision and work with others.

Responsibilities

  • Develop tooling and process improvements for the manufacture of shells and cartridges by changing specifications and supervising tests.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot production difficulties; implement corrective measures.
  • Identify and implement cost-reduction opportunities (material utilization, efficiency, quality).
  • Review tools and perishable parts drawings and initiate Engineering Change Orders when justified.
  • Assist with design, construction, and installation of machine guarding per OSHA standards.
  • Collaborate with new products group and manufacturing engineering on new product launches.
  • Manage major equipment upgrade projects including capex justification, redesign, and scheduling.
  • Review bills of materials and routes for accuracy and cost savings.
  • Process changes to correct errors.

Job Overview

The Kinetic Group is a world leader in the design, manufacturing, and distribution of small caliber ammunition under the iconic brands B&P, CCI, Federal Premium, Fiocchi, HEVI, Remington and Speer. We have domestic ammunition manufacturing facilities in Minnesota, Idaho, Arkansas, and Missouri, and service law enforcement, government agencies and sporting enthusiasts throughout the world. Today, The Kinetic Group is a part of the Ammo+ division of The Czechoslovak Group (CSG), which holds a diverse portfolio of companies in the defense, security, automotive, aerospace and rail industries. As such a Manufacturing Engineer has a crucial role in developing new methods, tooling and machine designs and resolving processing issues/problems involved in the manufacturing of shells, primers, and/or cartridges in the ammunition plants. This position reports to the Centerfire Engineering Manager and is based out of our Lewiston office.

What you’ll do:

Develop improvements to tooling and processes for the manufacture of existing products by changing the present specifications and supervising special tests concerning product improvement.

Investigates and troubleshoots production difficulties and takes corrective measures.

Identifies and implements cost reduction opportunities such as improved material utilization, increased machine/process efficiency, reduced cost of poor quality, etc.

Reviews tools and perishable machine parts drawings for the necessity of revision on tolerances, surface finishes, dimensions, material selection, etc., and initiates Engineering Change Orders where justified.

Assist with design, building and installation of machine and equipment guarding in accordance with OSHA standards.

Present guarding to safety committee for approval.

Assist in implementing new products working in conjunction with the new products group and manufacturing engineering.

Perform major equipment failure project management assignments including responsibility for: capital expenditure justification, equipment/process redesign and documentation, project spending, project execution timing, and resource management.

Reviews bills of materials and routes for accuracy and cost savings opportunities.

Processes changes to correct errors.

Experience you bring:

Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent related experience

Strong mechanical skills and trouble shooting ability

CAD training, SolidWorks preferred

Computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets

Excellent mathematical, problem solving, written and verbal communications skills

Thorough understanding and broad application of technical standards, principles, theories, and techniques.

Ability to perform at a high level with minimal supervision and direction

Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other manufacturing plant personnel

You might have:

3+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment

Cold forming experience

Hands on experience with Six Sigma tools and techniques and lean manufacturing concepts.

Thorough understanding of machine shop technology

Well-rounded knowledge base on materials, technologies, manufacturing techniques

Knowledge of Excel Pivot Tables and Macros

Pay Range:

Pay Range: $63,700.00 - $89,200.00 The actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on variables including experience, geographic location, education, and skills/achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
