Job summary

Hitachi Energy in the United States is seeking an Associate Load Tap Changer (LTC) Technician to inspect, maintain, and repair LTCs and transformer equipment used on the power grid. Qualifications

  • Must have work authorization to work in the United States.
  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical schooling preferred.
  • Technical school, trade school, military training, or coursework in electrical/mechanical fields is a plus.
  • Previous field service, maintenance, or utilities experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn company software systems.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical and electrical work on Load Tap Changers (LTCs) and transformer equipment under supervision.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, upgrades, and field service activities.
  • Support electrical testing and diagnostics to identify issues and improve reliability.
  • Assist with oil processing and oil handling equipment.
  • Read and interpret procedures, drawings, blueprints, and technical documents.
  • Complete daily activity reports and service/customer documentation accurately.
  • Document field activities and equipment condition using digital tools.
  • Collaborate with field crews, management, engineering teams, and customers to execute projects.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

The Opportunity

As an Associate Load Tap Changer (LTC) Technician, you will work alongside experienced technicians to inspect, maintain, and repair Load Tap Changers (LTCs) and transformer equipment used on the power grid. This role provides hands‑on exposure to LTC maintenance, transformer service, electrical testing, controls, and oil processing while building technical knowledge and safe work practices. You will assist with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, upgrades, inspections, and field service activities, helping identify equipment issues and support dependable equipment performance. You will also work with procedures, drawings, blueprints, technical documents, and digital tools to document field activities and equipment condition. Through collaboration with field crews, engineering teams, management, and customers, you will contribute to projects that support power grid reliability while gaining experience with modern service methods and equipment technologies used throughout the industry.

How You'll Make an Impact
  • Perform mechanical and electrical work on Load Tap Changers (LTCs) and transformer equipment under the direction of experienced technicians.

  • Assist with preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, upgrades, and field service activities.

  • Support electrical testing and diagnostic activities to identify equipment issues and improve reliability.

  • Assist with the operation of oil processing and oil handling equipment.

  • Read and interpret procedures, drawings, blueprints, and technical documents.

  • Complete daily activity reports, service documentation, and customer reports accurately and on time.

  • Utilize digital tools and software to document field activities and equipment condition.

  • Collaborate with field crews, management, engineering teams, and customers to execute projects.

  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Technical school, trade school, military training, or coursework in electrical, mechanical, industrial, or related fields preferred.

  • Previous experience in construction, maintenance, manufacturing, utilities, or field service is beneficial but not required.

  • Basic computer skills and willingness to learn company software systems.

  • Valid Driver's License required.

  • Ability to travel extensively throughout the United States.
