Job summary

Texas A&M University System Offices in Dallas, TX seeks an Associate Director, Research Animal Welfare. The role provides veterinary leadership, compliance support, and program oversight for institutional animal care and use programs across System members. The Attending Veterinarian will guide SOP development, training, and regulatory readiness.

The position requires a D.V.M. or equivalent, five years of related experience, and strong knowledge of federal regulations governing animal care.

Qualifications

• Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M. or equivalent) from an AVMA-accredited college of veterinary medicine.
• Five years of progressively responsible experience in laboratory animal medicine, research animal program oversight, IACUC administration, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Attending Veterinarian or AV designee for assigned System members.
• Provide veterinary oversight for animal care and use programs at institutions.
• Deliver clinical veterinary consultation, diagnostics, treatment, and emergency response as needed.
• Develop and review SOPs, guidelines, and policies related to animal care and use.
• Support accreditation activities and inspections (USDA, NIH, AAALAC).
• Mentor researchers and institutional personnel in animal welfare and compliance.
