Job summary

Montclair State University is seeking an Associate Director of Residential Education to coordinate activities, programs, and training for all student staff in the Residential Life Education department. You will oversee recruitment, onboarding, development, and governance across two campuses with extensive student engagement.

The role emphasizes collaboration with campus partners, curriculum development, and on-call administration to ensure a seamless residential experience for over 5,500

Qualifications

• Master's degree from accredited college/university in higher education administration or related field.
• At least six years of professional residence life or student affairs experience with progression and supervision.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Direct experience supervising, training and developing staff, and managing residence hall activities.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the Residential Student Support Specialist and Graduate Program Coordinator; oversee 330 student employees.
• Lead staff hiring, training and development for academic year and summer staff.
• Develop training manuals and programs; coordinate logistics for events and speakers.
• Oversee recruitment processes including interview design, rubrics, and hiring workflows.
• Maintain staff roster and onboarding in collaboration with HR; evaluate performance using structured tools.
• Support student governance and collaborate with campus partners to enhance the residential living experience.
• Develop, monitor and evaluate residential curriculum; compile programming metrics and reports.
• Create promotional materials and lead co-sponsorship initiatives with campus offices.
• Assist with residence hall openings/closings, weekend programming and on-call emergencies.
