Job summary

Cytel is seeking an Associate Director, Epidemiological Statistical Programming to lead and mentor a team of statistical programmers on epidemiology and real-world evidence studies. You will translate study objectives into robust programming solutions and oversee delivery with high quality standards.

Based in Boston, you will collaborate with epidemiologists, statisticians, and data scientists, developing reusable tools and best practices to improve efficiency and reproducibility across projects

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, or related field; advanced degree is a plus.
• 8+ years of relevant statistical programming experience in pharma/biotech/CRO with epidemiology/RWE experience.
• Experience with Optum and Truveta.
• Advanced SAS and/or R programming expertise with reproducible workflows.
• Strong experience with large healthcare data sources (claims, EHRs, registries).
• Leadership, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver on timelines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and functional leadership to epidemiological programmers, mentoring team members.
• Lead hands-on programming for epidemiological studies across multiple therapeutic areas.
• Develop, validate, and maintain SAS and/or R programs for analyses.
• Collaborate with epidemiologists, statisticians, data scientists, and other stakeholders.
• Offer expert consultation on complex programming and data challenges.
• Oversee deliverables for accuracy, reproducibility, and quality on timelines.
• Support studies using real-world data sources (claims, EHRs, registries).
• Develop analysis-ready datasets, data transformations, and QC procedures.
• Promote programming standards, reusable tools, and documentation.
• Drive automation, standardization, and scalable programming approaches.
• Plan and prioritize activities across projects, identify risks and dependencies.
• Support regulatory submissions and evidence-generation activities.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, SOPs, and privacy laws.
• Coach and mentor colleagues to build programming talent.
