Job summary

Howden Re is seeking an Associate Director for the Catastrophe Analytics R&D team in the United States. The role balances client service (25–50%) with R&D (50–75%), focusing on advising clients on catastrophe risk and advancing modeling capabilities.

Candidate will analyze, adjust, and validate catastrophe models, collaborate with a best-in-class analytics team, and support data-driven decision making for top client service. 4+ years in catastrophe modeling is required.

Qualifications

• 4+ years experience in catastrophe modeling and risk management.
• High level of proficiency in data analysis, manipulation, and visualization tools and program languages (SQL, Excel, R, Python, Power BI, ArcGIS).
• Experience with cat modeling software (e.g. Verisk Touchstone, RMS RiskLink).
• Knowledge of property insurance and reinsurance; ARe designation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Execute catastrophe modeling including data preparation, validation, and reporting of results.
• Respond to queries from internal/external stakeholders on exposure data, real-time cat events, and risk view.
• Communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
• Use proprietary software to design and manage catastrophe reinsurance programs.
• Validate catastrophe models using external data sources.
• Build and maintain relationships with colleagues, clients, and reinsurers.
