Associate – Insurance Litigation & Coverage

Location: New York, NY

The Opportunity

An international law firm is seeking an Associate to join its expanding New York insurance practice. The role offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-value insurance coverage disputes, advising leading insurers on a wide range of financial lines and specialist risks.

You'll work alongside experienced Partners and an established international network spanning the US, UK and Asia, gaining exposure to sophisticated cross-border matters while developing your technical expertise and client relationships.

With the New York team continuing to grow, this is an opportunity to take on meaningful responsibility and contribute to the development of a growing practice.

The Role

You will support a varied caseload of insurance coverage and litigation matters, with a focus on Directors & Officers (D&O), Financial Institutions, Professional Liability, Cyber and Transactional Liability.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Advising insurers on policy interpretation, coverage analysis, reservation of rights and coverage positions.
• Supporting complex disputes, including pre-action strategy, litigation, arbitration, discovery, motions and settlement negotiations.
• Assisting with claims strategy and exposure management, working closely with claims professionals, underwriters and brokers.
• Handling matters across a range of financial lines and specialist insurance risks.
• Organising case materials, maintaining chronologies and issues lists, and ensuring clear and effective matter reporting.
• Developing strong client relationships and contributing to business development and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

About You

You’ll ideally have:

• Admission to practice in New York and membership of the New York Bar.
• Approximately 2–5 years' relevant experience in insurance coverage, insurance litigation or a closely related litigation practice.
• Experience advising on coverage issues and supporting complex disputes.
• Strong analytical, drafting and communication skills.
• A commercial mindset and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
• A collaborative approach to working with Partners, colleagues and clients.
• An interest in developing client relationships, growing your professional network and contributing to the wider team.
• Experience in any of the following areas would be advantageous: cyber and technology claims, professional liability, employment practices liability, transactional risk, lawyers' and accountants' liability, brokers' errors and omissions, or ERISA/fiduciary liability.
