Job summary

The University of Texas at Tyler invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Counseling in the CACREP-accredited CMHC program. This full-time, nine-month appointment will be in-person on the UT Tyler campus, with potential for tenure-track starting Spring 2027 or Fall 2027.

Job Summary

The Department of Psychology and Counseling at The University ofTexas at Tyler invites applications for an Assistant/AssociateProfessor of Counseling to start in the Spring of 2027 or the Fallof 2027. This is a full-time tenured or tenure-track position witha nine-month academic year appointment in the clinical mentalhealth counseling (CMHC) program in the Department of Psychologyand Counseling within the School of Health Professions at theUniversity of Texas at Tyler. The CACREP-accredited CMHC program atthe University of Texas at Tyler is an in person 60-hour Master ofArts degree. Students who graduate with a degree from our programmeet the coursework requirements for licensure as a LicensedProfessional Counselor (LPC). Salary is competitive andcommensurate with qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide service to the counseling profession at a local, state,and/or national levels, and participate collaboratively in program,department, college and university governance.
• A strong candidate for this position may also be considered forthe role of Program Coordinator for the CMHC program.Responsibilities include providing leadership for the program,coordinating course scheduling, and preparing accreditation reportsfor CACREP.
• The faculty will also have opportunities to work andcollaborate with our other psychology programs when desired.
• Maintain regular on-campus presence.
• Attend departmental meetings.

Required Qualifications

• Earned a doctorate in counselor education (preference given toapplicants with a degree earned from a CACREP-accredited program)by August, 2027.
• Professional experience and research expertise in counselingand supervision in clinical settings.
• Evidence of university teaching and research activityappropriate for an assistant professor candidate.
• The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a strongprofessional counselor identity, the ability to conduct a focusedand sustained program of research and scholarship, and experienceteaching graduate students, and strong interpersonal skills.
• Additionally, applicants should have a license or be licenseeligible in Texas.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement Systemof Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours perweek and at least 135 days in length. This position has the optionto elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS,subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135days in length.
