Position Description

The Department ofCounseling, Leadership, Adult Education, and School Psychology(CLAS) in the College of Education at Texas StateUniversity, a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) located in SanMarcos, Texas, invites applications for a tenure-earning assistantprofessor position of Professional Counseling beginning August2027. This position is focused on teaching and research in theSchool Counseling Concentration and involves teaching, research,service, and program support in a vibrant master's program inCentral Texas. Specific responsibilities include teaching coursesin Professional Counseling, maintaining an active and productiveprogram of research, engaging in external funding submissions, andproviding service to the program, department, university, andprofession.

The Professional Counseling Program isCACREP-accredited in three specialty areas: Clinical Mental HealthCounseling; Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling; and SchoolCounseling. This position will include teaching core courses in ourcounseling program, with a particular focus on school counselingcourses, Developmental Issues, and Child and Adolescent Counseling.The successful candidate will be headquartered on the mainuniversity campus in San Marcos and will teach courses on both themain university campus in San Marcos and at the university's RoundRock campus.

The CLAS Department servesapproximately 975 students seeking undergraduate, master's, anddoctoral degrees in Professional Counseling (COUN), Educational andCommunity Leadership (EDCL), Adult, Professional, and CommunityEducation (APCE), School Psychology (SPSY), Student Affairs inHigher Education (SAHE), and Integrated Studies (INTS). Required Qualifications

• An earned doctorate in Counselor Education by employment dateof August 2027.
• A demonstrated record of training and experience in schoolcounseling.
• A record of, or demonstration of the potential for, researchand publication at the national and/or international levels.
• A record of, or demonstration of the potential for, securingexternal funding for research.
• A professional clinical license (e.g., Licensed ProfessionalCounselor [LPC], Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist [LMFT]) orSchool Counselor certification or a provisional clinical license(e.g., LPC Associate, LMFT Associate) with a plan in place tocomplete the professional license in the State of Texas within twoyears.

Preferred Qualifications

• A documented record of securing external funding forresearch.
• Experience teaching core courses in a CACREP-accredited programin the teaching areas listed above.
• Designation as a clinical supervisor (e.g., LPC-S, LMFT-S) andexperience providing clinical supervision in an academic and/orclinical setting.
• A professional certification in play therapy (e.g., RegisteredPlay Therapist [RPT™], Registered Play Therapist Supervisor[RPT-S™], School- Based Registered Play Therapist [SB-RPT™]).
• A demonstrated record of training and experience in playtherapy.
