Job summary

Newton Public Schools seeks an Assistive Technology Specialist to promote teaching and learning for students with specialized technology and adaptive equipment as defined in IDEA. The AT specialist will assess how disabilities may affect access to the general curriculum, develop functional skills and independence, and collaborate with teams to implement AT to improve and maintain capabilities.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Assistive Technology, Speech Language Pathology or a related field.
• DESE licensure in instructional technology, special education, or related field.
• Minimum of 3-years' experience as an Assistive Technology Specialist.
• Knowledge of Assistive Technology, special education processes, and related terminology.

Responsibilities

• Assess students for AT supports and prepare written reports for Team meetings.
• Provide direct AT services and consultation to staff and families as per IEP service grids.
• Adapt curriculum using AT resources and support teams working with students.
• Locate AT/AAC devices and software and coordinate with supervisors for orders.
• Train staff, students, and parents in the use of AT supports.
