Job summary

Governor Morehead School for the Blind is seeking an Assistive Technology Teacher to provide specialized instruction and support in assistive technology for visually impaired students. You will collaborate with teachers, families, and external agencies to select and implement AT aligned with individual needs.

The role focuses on enabling students to access the curriculum, develop independence, and prepare for postsecondary goals through training in screen readers, magnification, and accessible

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Visual Impairment, Assistive Technology, Educational Technology, or related field.
  • Must hold or be eligible for North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in Visual Impairment (K–12) or Special Education with AT expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction in assistive technology to support curriculum access.
  • Instruct on word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, and other productivity tools.
  • Conduct AT assessments and contribute recommendations to IEPs.
  • Train students in screen readers, braille tech, magnification devices, and accessible software.
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate AT into instruction and routines.
  • Provide consultation and coaching to staff on accessibility and AT implementation.
  • Maintain records related to assessments, services, equipment use, and student progress.
  • Coordinate with families, vendors, and outside agencies for AT needs and services.
