Job summary

The Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh, NC seeks a Computer Technology Teacher to provide engaging learning experiences for K-12 students who are blind or visually impaired.

The role involves adapting materials in braille or large print, integrating assistive tech, and collaborating with families, staff, and the community. A NC professional license in the relevant subject area is required. This is an 11-month position with an 18% supplement based on experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education with appropriate subject areas.

• Ability to prepare course objectives and outlines following curriculum guidelines.
• Ability to infuse technology, including assistive technology, into the curriculum.

Job description

The Computer Technology Teacher is primarily responsible to the Principal of the GovernorMorehead School for the Blind (GMS) for providing appropriate classroom learningexperiences for students in grade K-12 who are blind or visually impaired.

Responsibilities

• Provides anatmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotionaldevelopment of individuals to ensure success for every student.
• Responsible for supervisingstudents in a variety of school settings; monitoring and evaluating student outcomes; andcommunicating/interacting with students, parents/families, staff, and the community.
• Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials – including materials inaccessible formats such as braille, large print, and tactile graphics—to meet the needs of allstudents.
• Additionally, is responsible for maintaining appropriate records and followingrequired procedures and practices, as well as monitoring the appropriate use and care ofspecialized equipment, assistive technology, materials, and facilities.

This is an 11-month position.

Certification and License Requirements

Must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina professional educator’s license in theappropriate subject area.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired, including studentswith additional disabilities.
• Familiarity with braille literacy instruction (UEB).
• Licensed Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments.
• Experience with Assistive technology, specifically screen readers, screen magnification, and screen adaptations.
