Position Details

• Title: Assistant Transportation Manager
• Location: Lansing, MI
• Shift: Nights (10:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Base Salary: $68,000

What You’ll Do as the Assistant Transportation Manager, you will help lead our Lansing facility’s night operations. You’ll support and oversee transportation functions to ensure timely, compliant, and cost-effective service.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and support transportation staff to maintain smooth operations.
• Ensure on-time pickups, deliveries, and workflow accuracy.
• Monitor and manage budgets, optimizing costs without compromising service.
• Oversee third-party transportation vendors and maintain strong working relationships.
• Enforce DOT compliance and maintain accurate records.
• Promote a safe, respectful, and productive work culture.
• Oversee training, evaluations, coaching, hiring, and terminations for the night shift team.
• Ensure top-tier customer service from all transportation staff.
• Manage and track fleet assets for efficiency and cost control.
• Utilize Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and tools like Samsara for tracking, compliance, and analytics.
• Assist with scanning, delivery, pick-up procedures, and OS&D resolution.
• Coordinate with operations to ensure timely dispatching.
  

What You Bring

• Minimum 2 years of experience in transportation/fleet operations.
• Minimum 2 years of leadership experience (team supervision, training, and performance management).
• Strong proficiency in transportation systems, route planning, and analytics.
• Knowledge of DOT compliance, mapping, and routing.
• Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, or adjust shifts as needed.
• Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license.
